My POS Rescue and Recovery

Hi everyone, TIA for your help. I just got an external hd, so I have tried to create a back up file for storage there. However, after 3 times, Rescue and Recovery keeps halting progress, and I get a pop up that says "rescue and recovery is crap software, so it's unable to back up the file 'x.......' because the file is corrupted or being used by another application." At first, I hit skip cause it was just one file....but then it started doing this to EVERY file, effectively rendering my rescue and recovery an utterly useless program. Then, it told me it was unable to load the symmetric key needed to encrypt the back up. What's going on with this thing!?!?!? It's pissing me off!

Thanks again for your help.

PS...my Logitech wireless keyboard is randomly cutting out now, too. Strangely, the mouse works. All of this has happened within 24 hours. By what demon is my computer possessed?!!?

Regarding your first problem:
Lenovo wrote:Symptom

When performing a backup operation the following message might be displayed: "Rescue and Recovery is unable to back up the file <file name> because the file is either corrupted or being used by another application. Please close any application that could be using the file."

Problem Description: The Rescue and Recovery application can usually back up any file on the computer, even if it is being used by another application. However, the following files are exceptions to that rule:
* Files that have been encrypted using the Windows Encrypting File System (EFS) being used by an application that uses algorithms to prevent other programs from reading the file contents.
* Files that have become corrupted.

Solution

Follow the instructions on the dialog prompt.
* Close any application that might be using this file and click "Retry" to back up this file.
* Skip this file and continue with the backup operation.
Note: if a file is skipped, it will not be stored in the backup. If you restore your computer from the backup, the referenced file will not be restored.
* Cancel the backup operation.

Thanks, I found that earlier. Is there any other solution other than not backing up the (what could be extremely important) files in question?

Not using encryption myself, I can only guess. First, close all applications except RnR when you do the backup. If you still have problems, try the following.

I believe if you unencrypt the folder(s) and/or file(s) that have the encryption applied, then the backup should run fine. You can reencrypt after the backup operation is complete. I believe if you use the CSS software instead of Windows encryption, the backup will probably work. Not that I am recommending CSS...

Also, you should check your drive for errors before running RnR to backup your hard drive. Go to My Computer, right-click on the drive and choose: Properties > Tools > Error Checking > Check Now...
