Can ZoneAlarm and Symantec Client Security AV co-exist?
Can ZoneAlarm and Symantec Client Security AV co-exist?
I would like to retain my copy of Symantec Client Security, but only use the Anti-Virus features. As I look at the options for the Symantec Fire Wall, it looks like it is possible to set it for manual start up. As I understand, the AV features of Symantec Client Security v 3.1 cannot be installed separately from the Symantec Client Firewall. (Correct me if I'm wrong....)
By setting the Symantec Fire Wall within Symantec Client Security (v 8.6.134) to manual start, might I be able to use Zone Alarm as my firewall?
Has anyone had experience with this?

Symantec Client Security integrates the Firewall (not available separately so far as I now) and AntiVirus (which is available separately). I find the Firewall to be a very good product, so if you are going to use the integrated solution, my recommendation is to use the whole thing.
If you really want Zone Alarm, then consider uninstalling Client Security and obtaining and installing just Symantec AntiVirus 10.

Based on a conversation with Symantec tech support, it is possible to shut down the firewall (by selecting manual startup in the firewall options). They could not comment on whether or not there might be a conflict with Zone Alarm even if the Symantec firewall was not manually started.
Also, a question about Symantec Anti-Virus: Does it scan incoming POP or IMAP or Exchange email for viruses when you are using Outlook or Outlook Express?
What are other's experiences in the corporate edition of Symantec AV catching email with viruses?

I have been successfully using Symantec Corporate Client Security for several years now. This integrates the Firewall and the AntiVirus application. I am on version 3.1.5 now and this is A/V Version 10.1.5.5 and Firewall Version 8.7.4.97.phrider wrote:<snip>

At no time whatever since I have used this product has a virus entered either machine untrapped and at no time whatever since I have used this product has an intruder gotten in.
This is what I use and I make no push or specific recommendation. This is just my experience. ... JD Hurst
I also use Zone Alarm (free version) 6.5.7 with no problems, but you have to disable the Windows Firewall first; no biggie, I am told that the Windows firewall really only protects the Microsoft products onboard. I also use the Symantec Anti-virus which has no firewall.
