Sorry for cross-posting this, but I got no response in the T60 forum, so I am trying my luck here again. Maybe someone in this more general forum has gone through this and has an answer:

For misc. reasons I was so far using the WinXP default Bluetooth stack. Recently a colleague mentioned that he is very happy with one of the recent versions of the Lenovo BT stack and since that stack seems to have much more profiles than the standard stack I wanted to give it a try again.

So, I disabled the BT device (Fn F5), uninstalled the existing BT devices (MS' BT driver and BT Enumerator), removed all virtual BT COM ports and disabled the MS' "Bluetooth support service".

Then I installed the most recent BT package, rebooted an then enabled the BT device again. The HW manager detected the "new" device, installed all drivers and now signals, that it is using the newly installed BT driver ("Thinkpad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate" V5.1.0.2100), but the Bluetooth Configuration in Control Panel reports "Bluetooth Device Is Not Detected" (Diagnostics Tab), the task bar icons is red and thus also signalling "no device", and "Bluetooth Places" on the desktop reports the same.

I rebooted a couple of times since, but the BT device remains unusable. What else does one need to disable, change or fiddle with so that the MS BT stack is properly removed and the Lenovo bluetooth stack (and its profiles) are able to connect and use the BT device?

Alas that did not help (I have found serveral such entries by now here and elsewhere). It seems that all that these folks had to do was to install the Lenovo SW and then update the device driver by manually directing the HW wizards to the correct driver.

But in my case, the correct driver is installed (at least it is listed as "working properly" in HW Manager) but it seems that the BT applet (in control panel) and the remainder of the BT stack are unable to "see" or connect to this driver, at least they all keep reporting "no local BT device detected".

So, either something is still missing or some remainings of the prior MS stack keep my BT device locked.

Probably a stupid question, but did you turn Bluetooth on using Fn + F5?

Yes - it's turned on (LED is lighted)!
As I had written in my original append: I had turned it off before uninstalling the MS drivers and then on again after the final reboot, ie. after installing the Lenovo BT package.

And the new driver is up an running (i.e. present and visible in HW manager even when not "showing hidden devices"). But the BT applet doesn't see it...
