Is there an inbetween between a 1024x768 and 1400x1050 LCD?

Call it the goldilox syndrome, but with a 14" lcd, xga doesn't quite fit all the information I need on one screen, and everything is too small and harder to read on a sxga screen.

is there such thing as a 1200x800 resolution screen.

I've never seen one, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Rightclick anywhere on the SXGA+ desktop, select Properties, select the Settings tab and move the slider under Resolution the whatever resolution suits you.

Unfortunately this will give you a non-native resolution, which will degrade the image quality, in some cases much more than others.

In answer to the OP's question, the Z61T comes in two screen resolutions. The "better" of the two, 900x1440 is both a 14" widescreen plus has an intermediate native resolution.

In the old CRT days when there was no such thing as a "native resolution", you could run 1152x864 (XGA+) or 1280x960, but no one makes LCD panels with these resolutions, to my knowledge. And 1280x1024 is 5:4 rather than 4:3, making it impractical for laptop applications.

The one option would be to go wide screen -- the Z series offers a 14" 1280x800 (WXGA) display).

How long have you been using the SXGA+ display (in native resolution of course) ? Don't judge after few hours, give it a week at least to see whether you can use it or no. 15" SXGA+ is imho perfect compromise.

I have said the exact same thing about having XGA vs. SXGA+ on the X60T's 12.1" screen.

A few Thinkpad models from the late 1990s had 1280x1024 (i.e. SXGA, without the "plus") displays, but that's a 5:4 aspect ratio. The 4:3 version of SXGA would be 1280x960, which might be the sweet spot for many people. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any laptops with such a resolution. The best compromise available is going widescreen: 1280x800 (WXGA) has 30% more working area than XGA.

1280 x 800 is widescreen... Only option you have it to get a SXGA+ screen and lower the resolution to say 1280x1024. Yeah it's non-native, but that's what we've got.
