Software installer
Software installer
My Software installer updates are downloaded to a file named IBMTools. After downloading and installing, can these files be safely deleted in order to free up space?
Thanks for your help.
Thanks for your help.
I have basically the same question, although I have files in IBMTOOLS and DRIVERS. Can these be deleted? I am trying to fix (2) invalid entries;
Intel PROset - Required (I have an Atheros mPCI card)
RecordNow by Sonic Update - recommended (I have RecordNow by IBM installed - IBM RecordNow, Version 4.10)
Not sure what is going on with RecordNow or PROSet.

Re: Software installer
Apart from two text files (Connect and Install) which keep track of what has been installed via Software Installer, you can delete everything else after it has been installed.maz1 wrote:After downloading and installing, can these files be safely deleted in order to free up space?

As far as I'm aware the most recent version of RecordNow for ThinkPads is 7.32.1 build 08e (circa late 2006).Harryc wrote:I currently have IBM RecordNow version 4.10 installed, and the Sonic update doesn't seem to recognize this as a valid package to update.
The "version 4" copies go back to circa 2003 when RecordNow was added to the Thinkpad value-add application suite, so there may just be too big a gap between them and version 7 to be recognised for upgrading?!?

Re: Software installer
If space on your HD is at a premium, then they can be deleted. However, rather than just dumping them in the trash you may want to consider keeping a copy of the latest version of each driver / utility so that if things go horribly wrong when you're miles from the nearest internet connection you can get your machine back up and running. Just a thought . . .maz1 wrote:After downloading and installing, can these files be safely deleted in order to free up space?

Thanks Bill. Does anyone know of a way to upgrade to the latest RecordNow from 4.10 or is this a lost cause?bill bolton wrote:As far as I'm aware the most recent version of RecordNow for ThinkPads is 7.32.1 build 08e (circa late 2006).Harryc wrote:I currently have IBM RecordNow version 4.10 installed, and the Sonic update doesn't seem to recognize this as a valid package to update.

Just a shot in the dark . . .
At the Lenovo Support "Downloads and drivers" page, enter "RecdordNow"
in the Search box at the top right of the page and see if you can find
one that will install.
I did something like that about two and a half or so years ago when I
bought a refurbished NetVista from IBM. It didn't have a writable CD
drive, so didn't come with RecordNow, but I had a USB drive I'd been
using with the box the NV replaced, and wanted RecordNow. I found one
that installed without a version of it being already installed, and
I've since been able to continue to upgrade it to the latest version.
Good luck !!!
