ThinkVantage System Update

I've been running my X40 (2371-8EU) for almost three years now, all of it quite happy. Last night, I was having some strange wifi connectivity issues, and in the process of troubleshooting, I decided to update some of the pre-loaded IBM software. Keep in mind that most of this stuff had not been touched since the initial install in March 2004. Old, old, old.

I managed to uninstall IBM Update Connector 6.0 (after realizing it needed files in C:\ibmtools\, which I had deleted ages ago to save disk space, thinking it was only installation cab files), then downloaded and installed ThinkVantage System Update 3.00.0026. However, when I try to run TVSU, all I get is the initial splash screen, the Windows "critical stop" sound effect plays, then after exactly 60 seconds, the splash screen disappears. That's it.

No error messages anywhere that I can find, no indication of any other activity or hidden windows, etc.

I followed all the instructions in the TVSU readme, but it is not working properly. Is there a minimum BIOS revision that TVSU depends on (I can't imagine that being the case), or some other Windows component that the readme does not mention? I have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 on XP Pro SP2 already.

Any hints on what other troubleshooting I should do? It would be nice to have TVSU figure out everything that needs to be updated on this machine, without doing it manually.

X40, a old model.
I guess you better try "Software Installer" first.
then "SU3"

I want to say that old system update versions required Java... So that could be another dependency you're missing
