Strange unidentified device

Whilst visiting parents, and getting the chance to carry out a bit of maintenance (Spyware, Windows and IBM updates), I noticed that an unidentified device had parked itself in device manager on their T41 (XP-SP2), and I have no idea what it is, other than that it appears to be something Lenovo-related.
There is a previously unseen new device named 'SM Driver' with a sub-device named 'SM bios service', the latter having an exclamation mark through it. Further prodding in properties reveals the manufacturer to be 'Lenovo TVT SMBIOS'

This may be nothing to be concerned about but I'd really rather it be either not be there, if it is not required, or reconciled with whatever driver is required to keep the exclamation mark happy!
Any help and/or advice from you knowledgable folk would be much appreciated! Many thanks.
