Which is very strange. I had searched this site a couple of months ago by changing just the "7" to an "8" for some models that I have and they were the same. I entered some 2647 and 2648 serial numbers I have into the Warranty site and it returned two different service plans. Hmm.. maybe more investigation into this is needed...
My understanding is that any T23 can be upgraded with the security chip. What it does and how to use it, I don't know. I have a couple of systems that IBM says have the secure chip (the HNU I'm using right now), but I've never taken this system apart to verify it's actually there (you have to pull the motherboard out). According to the HMM, these are the systems which have the secure chip (all are listed as 2647):
5Lx, 9Lx, DLT, HNU, 5Dx, 5Fx, 5Hx, 5Jx, 5Nx, 5Mx, 9Dx, 9Fx, 9Hx, 9Jx, 9Nx, 9Mx, DFx, HNx, NNx, 5Rx, 5Sx, 5Ux, 9Rx, 9Sx, 9Ux, HSU ("x" can be any character).
