I encountered a similar problem in that I did not receive a fingerprint prompt to log onto Windows (I do not have a Supervisor/Administrator, Power-On or HDD password enabled).
This issue appeared after upgrading Client Security Solution to v8.0 and Fingerprint Reader to v5.6. I tried everything, from fiddling with the settings in CSS, Password Manager (part of CSS), and Fingerprint Software to reading the Riot Act to the BIOS. Strangely, upgrading to Rescue & Recovery v4.0 caused no problems.
I finally used the "Scorched Earth" approach: disable the embedded security chip and erase the stored fingerprints in BIOS, then uninstall/reinstall CSS 8.0 and Fingerprint Software 5.6.
Before doing so, BE SURE to export your settings in Password Manager and Fingerprint Software so that you can re-import them back into those applications and save time.
These are the steps I followed, which took about 25 minutes.
IMPORTANT: write down any Supervisor/Administrator, Power-On, HDD, and Windows Logon passwords as some or all of these will be deleted after following the steps below:
1. Export settings for Password Manager and Fingerprint Software to a **separate folder**. Do not export these backups to the programs' folders as they will likely be deleted when you uninstall these applications.
2. Download fresh copies of CSS 8.0 and Fingerprint Software 5.6 from Lenovo:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... OME-LENOVO
Save these packages to the Desktop or your location of choice.
3. Shut down system, wait 15 seconds, press F1 and Power simultaneously to reboot. This will open BIOS, where you can disable the embedded security chip and erase the stored fingerprints.
4. After disabling the embedded security chip and erasing the stored fingerprints, reboot normally.
5. Uninstall CSS 8.0. Disregard the prompt to restart your computer after removing CSS 8.0, and proceed to Step 6.
6. Uninstall Fingerprint Software 5.6. Reboot.
7. Clean out any temporary files, using Windows Disk Cleanup. If you have a registry cleaner, run it.
8. Shut down all unnecessary running processes and applications (I use EndItAll). Reinstall CSS 8.0. Reboot.
9. Shut down all unnecessary running processes and applications again. Reinstall Fingerprint Software 5.6. Reboot.
10. Re-import previously backed-up settings for Password Manager by opening CSS 8.0. You can re-import previously backed-up settings for Fingerprint Software; however, I elected to re-enroll fresh copies of my fingerprints just to be safe.
11. Configure settings in CSS 8.0, Fingerprint Software 5.6 and Password Manager as desired.
I know a lot of members here have sworn they will never use any or all of these applications because of persistent problems with no known cause. However, a comprehensive uninstallation/reinstallation approach may resolve these issues if you have the patience. Not everyone does, and I respect that.
Good luck.
