Rescue and Recovery CD craziness

So I get the CD pack in the mail (for free after I called the second time), install last night (the first five discs), and I'm all set.

There don't seem to be any problems, until I install Adobe Reader. It just doesn't work, and freezes when I try to open it.

After I try for another reinstall of the R&R CDs, it installs all six discs!

I called support before I installed for the second time, and the guy asked the supervisor, who told him "some comps take 5 discs, some take all 6".

Craziness... but I'm glad I went ahead and installed for the second time.

Once you have re-installed from the CD pack, do you not need to go through System Update and Software Installer to update all that needs updating? I understood the CD packs to be somewhat generic, and hence the need for the updates. (Hence the Adobe freeze.)

Perhaps they are generic, at least that's what I was told by support. The crazy part of the whole thing is that the first install only took the first 5 discs, but the second install took all six discs. Weird...

The last disc is extra software. I remember being asked for it last time I reinstalled Windows, but I didn't use it, and not using it did not cause any problems.
