Removing CSS question

I just got a new (refurb) T-60 as I wanted one without Vista. This is the first ThinkPad I've had with the security chip/CSS, which I would not have ordered but didn't have a choice. I did try it, and found it cumbersome.

I've scanned posts here for the last hour and could not find an answer to my question -- perhaps I'm being overcautious, though.

When I go to remove CSS in Add/Remove Programs, it's called "Rescue and Recovery - Client Security Solution."

Will removing CSS somehow affect the back-ups to the HDD done through the IBM software?

Although I have never had to do a back-up from there, I always like to have the option in case something goes horribly wrong while traveling.

Thanks,
Leo

I think IBM makes it a bit harder than that to erase that hidden partition. Tis why they called it a hidden partiton. It's a bear to put it back on once you erase it though...........

I think that erasing that program would probably just stop updating your recovery partiton.
