Rescue & Recovery and iPods

#1 Post by garyd9 » Mon Apr 30, 2007 8:42 pm

I see that the ThinkPad R&R application has an option to backup to a USB Hard Drive. However, this doesn't seem to work with an iPod...

I don't have iTunes installed... If I plug the iPod into the USB, however, WinXP loads the proper drivers for using the ipod as a removal hard drive. I've tested reading and writing files with no problem.

However, for some reason, R&R refuses to use the ipod in HDD mode either as a "USB Hard drive" or as a "2nd Hard Drive." It simply pops up an error dialog stating that it can't find the device or that it doesn't exist. I've even tried ejecting, unplugging, and reattaching the ipod while R&R was running. No luck.

Any suggestions? I have about 40 GB free on my ipod and it'd make a good place to shove a backup while I'm on the road...

I can't remember but it seems I read somewhere that you might have to format with your PC to get it to recognize it that way. I might be way off base though.
