Access Connections Policies

I have a user that is an administrator of his laptop, yet when he tries to go into Global Settings the options are greyed out. He also tries to access Find Wireless button and it says that is unavailable to him because he doesn't have permission.

I have logged into his laptop as an administrator and I am able to Find Wireless and access Global Settings. I have also removed Access Connections and still is restricted.

It is a ThinkPad T43 running Windows XP SP2. It originally had AC 4.12, but is now running 4.23.

Is there a policy section in the Registry or a location in his profile directory that may be preventing him from changing settings within Access Connections?

Thx

I had some issues in the past after upgrading ac on my computer and no longer where able to change the profiles because of some settings in the registry on my computer. Cannot remember the if i also had problems changing the global settings.

You could try to uninstall ac, remove the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lenovo\Access Connections" and all the keys/values under this key from the registry, delete any left overs from the folder where ac is where installed and then reinstall ac again. If you have a lot of profiles it might be a good idea to export this part (at least what's under "Locations") from your registry before you do this or export the profiles from the GUI if you are able to do so. If you only have one profile i guess creating that one again using the GUI shouldn't be a big problem. If you had earlier version of ac on your computer before maybe the settings in registry is located somewhere else like "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\Access Connections" so you could check that as well.
I guess that should solve the problem if the user really is an administrator on the computer.

Is ac ever installed with a distribution package on this computer in the past?

Yes

Yes I did deploy with a deployment package in the past, I'll check the registery locations after an uninstall and see if i can get it restored.

I guess there is something left from a previous installation with the distribution package where you disabled the option to change global settings. I'm not sure where that settings is located, but i believe it should be in the registry somewhere and most likely under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lenovo\Access Connections".
Also installing AC with a new distribution package that enable all settings again might solve the problem. Then the new distribution package might overwrite the old settings......not sure if that solve the problem though.
You could also check under "Program Files\Common Files", "Program Files\Lenovo", "Program Files\IBM" and "Documents and Settings\<username>" to see if some files is left from AC after a uninstall. Also search in the registry to see if there is some settings stored in other places that is realted to AC.....do a search for "Access Connections" and something like that.

But deleting they key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lenovo\Access Connections" might be all that is required to fix this problem so i would start with this one after a uninstall and then reinstall AC.
