#1 Post by jpapier » Tue May 08, 2007 11:08 pm

Will the latency make a difference? I am looking at two 512, sixteen chip, 64x64,CL2 sodimms for an upgrade.

CL2 should be a non-issue for the system. I believe that the A30 requires the use of PC133 CL3 memory. Putting in CL2 will not make it any faster. When you do install the new memory, I would suggest running some sort of memory check just to make sure everything is working correctly. You can use memtest86+ or PC Doctor for the A30/A31.

Indeed, the difference cannot be perceived in the real world, as it is only visible in synthetic benchmarks.

Unlike the actual change in responsiveness you see when, say, upgrading from a 4200RPM to a 7200RPM HDD.

Played it safe and used one infineon 512mb CL3 stick. Which gives me 768mb on a A30.
