Concerning the Thinkpad's "rubberish" paint

I plan on purchasing an x60 tablet soon, but to me, the black is a little boring. However, I really enjoy the texture of thinkpads, which is that rubbery feel. Ultimately I want to end up painting the exterior of the thinkpad a seafoam green color, kind of like a light green cyan, but I want to keep the original texture and feel.
Does anyone know what kind of paint is used on Thinkpads? And would anybody know where I could get that kind of paint, or a substitute? Maybe even recommend me a custom painting shop who can do that kind of textured paint? Thanks!

I always say: "Do as you wish".
But it is the classic Black that many of us here feel that is one of the things that gives Thinkpads their understated elegance. ... JDH

I understand about the classic black color. But when I go into my classroom with, oh I dunno, 80 other thinkpads? I wish mine wasn't black

I hear you on that.
Many times I have been tempted to disgrace my T41P and put a few stickers on it. The problem is what kind?
Military?
Anti-Gov't
Geeky?
Aliens?
NASA?
The # of choices boggles my mind. I would like to do *something* to customize my laptop though. Preferably something not permanent and that will NOT damage this lovely coating.

does anybody have any more information about the paint? I'm sure that the laptop is first painted in a color and then some clear coat is added with some chemical additive that gives it the whole rubbery feel. I'm looking for that clear coat and additive so that I can use it lol

My first thought was "tool grip dip"--a rubberised paint for hand tool grips to prevent slippage. Alas, I couldn't find any green. But I did find this:
http://www.plastidip.com/industrial/supergrip.html and this
http://www.homaxproducts.com/products/o ... howto.html. Paint your lid the colour you want and then give it a coat of one of these babies. Think it'll work?

Now
there's a thought. Being a victim of peeling paint syndrome, I have searched long and hard for an acceptable touch-up paint. I find that black chalkboard paint works quite well. But that's on the palm rest and the exterior coat feels slightly rubberier.
Anyway, there may be a green chalkboard paint out there.

When I first got my used X24, the first thing I did was to cover the whole palmrest area with packing tape. Yes, packing tape, you heard that right. I really don't care what other people think. What's in my mind was at the time I am selling my X24 I want it at least to look and feel like I first got it(which was pretty new as far as I could tell). I don't want any of my sweaty or oily hands leave marks/stain on the palmrest and decrease the laptop reselling value.
Of course that's just me. I also have a feeling that by the time I am going to sell my X24, I will probably have lots of sticky residues from the tape to deal with.

... and if you are lucky the adhesive did not interact with the surface of the palmrest over the time.

This is precisely the gripe I have about people who put labels on the top or palmrest of a laptop.
I have a T21 with a nice WinXP Professional COA and an "Intel Inside" sticker on the left side of the palmrest, where they do
not belong. Unfortunately, they were put on a long time ago, before I bought the computer, and when I removed them, the adhesive remained on the palmrest.
I managed to get the adhesive off with isopropyl alcohol - which is generally about as neutral and harmless to plastics as you can get - but the adhesive had damaged the paint and made it so soft that I removed portions of the rubberized paint in the process. The plastic underneath is also black, so the places don't show up too much, but I'll have to try to repaint the palmrest at some point in time just because some previous owner throught it was "cute" to put these labels on the palmrest instead of underneath the computer, where they belong (if at all - the "Intel Inside" label promptly went into the trash).

What models have the rubbery paint?
I have a r32, its just normal plastic/abs or something.
I did get a IBM mouse on ebay, that has a nice 'rubbery feel' to it, is the texture of the small laptop ibm mice like that off the other thinkpads?

Um... wouldn't that be the "original owner", IBM/Lenovo?

I doubt it, since this is a 600X 2645-5FG, which was originally sold with Win98. And all the other COAs I have are on the bottom of the computers.
