i was really thinking about getting a T61 today but saw i could only get it with a quadro nvs 140m. this really wasnt that great of a card.

is it at all possible that i could swap it out for one i buy from ebay or something crazy like that? or is there no way i can change out the video card in the t61 series.

(it will either be a t61 or an x series tablet for me, not sure which yet)

NO. No thinkpad has EVER had upgradeable graphics (and probably never will).

These systems are designed for business applications. Not games and the like.

Who knows, maybe someday, they would adapt this.

Asus has already been looking forward to manufacturing such machines and implementing the NVidia chipsets. More info. can be found here

Thanks.

These modules have been around for a few years but has not picked up speed yet. Hopefully they will implement this on ThinkPads.

Not likely to happen, though it would be cool. You are better off just getting a good 2-4 years out of the laptop and then upgrading to the next version. Buying new laptops is more cost effective than upgrading your current one with the way pricing is now. The new T61s have faster graphics cards than the T60ps, and the T61ps will be smoking.

Remember, there is always the dock solution. The Dock II (PCI) and Advanced Dock (PCI-E) include the ability to add a desktop video card, as long as you are compatible.

The XG Station is probably something to watch out for, though your portability will suffer whilst using it.

Some dockingstations do support PCI-E

A dude here on the forum has tried a Nvidia 7800GTX inside the dockingstation, and it worked 8)

Al tough he needed an external powersupply for the videocard because the dock can't generate the power needed for the vid. card
