Software Installer Inaccurate

Finding updates from Lenovo is turning into a scavenger hunt. There seem to be four places to look:
1. Software Installer tool
2. System Update tool
3. "Driver and Software" matrix on web site
4. "Downloads and Drivers" page on the web site.

Below is the list from Software Installer. You can see several cases where I've installed a newer version that Software Installer says is available. Also, I have a newer Fingerprint Software version that it doesn't even see. Finally, it reports two MS updates that won't install.

Hi,
I´ve recently had the following problem: when checking for ThinkVantage updates, I was told that i had to update ThinkVanatage System update. After updating it, I proceed to check for further Lenovo updates and I was told again that I had to update TV system update. Trying to do it several times I gave it up eventually

No idea what might have gone wrong there. Maybe a bug of Lenovo update to fix...
I thought this could be somehow related to your issue...

Software Update is pretty hopeless and I've given up with it.

Software Installer seems fine on my machine (T30 with XP) but it has had problems in the past.

I always use the device matrix pages and specific software pages to check levels of software. I then download them manually into my "ThinkPad" downloads folder and the run the install manually.
That way, I KNOW what I've installed.

I'm surprised that your report has Microsoft fixes listed. Mine never has. For those, I always use QFECHECK to ensure that the Microsoft updates have been applied correctly.

Yes, Software Installer seems to screw up often. Right now mine insists on downloading the Modem drivers package, even though I have the correct version installed. I let it download it and then it does the same thing next time. Lenovo doesn't seem to paying attention to Software Installer, but Thinkvantage System Update is worse. It seems to miss tons of updates.
