AC adaptors swapping

#1 Post by ujav » Thu May 31, 2007 7:39 pm

I have a t30 and a30p laptops
The power adaptor from t30 seems so small and handy - especially compared with the a30p's - it's much bigger, heavier, and have an annoying green LED on top.
The question is - can I use AC from t30 in a30p? They both has identical plugs and 16 voltage - but t30's claims 3A and a30p's - 4.5A.
Of course, I've alread tried this, and it works, but for how long? So, a30p demands 150% wattage of t30? - but I don't use the second ultrabay and things like 7200rpm hard drive.

Something does not compute here. Any, all, and every T30 I have seen comes with the ubiquitous 72 watt adapter (16 Volts at 4.5 Amps). That is what the A machine wants according to you. So if you have a 3 Amp adapter for the T30, I would say it is the wrong adapter for it. ... JDH

If you have an IBM adapter with a green LED on top, then you may have an AC/DC combo model (FRU 22P9003), which IS a lot bigger/heavier than the regular AC-only models.

P.S. Can you check and make sure that your e-mail in your profile is correct. If it is, contact BillM and have him remove the message under your name.

here they are:

Now I see, it's exactly FRU 22P9003, combo AC/DC..

And yes, 56 Watt version is for X series only:

But why it came in europe with a T30? - and it works smooth for years, maybe with some overheating though.

Ok, and can it work the A30? There must be some wattage reserve, and what can happen if it exceeds?

A 56W power supply was standard across a number of ThinkPad models in earlier times, including 600 series models.
