and here's why, in a nutshell..
While there are many legitimate reasons an owner of a thinkpad might need to crack the password chip, there are also many illigitimate and obvious reasons to do so.

Consider if YOUR thinkpad was lost or stolen, would you want you personal data available to others..? I think, in most cases, nope..

SO, here at the thinkpads forum, we leave that discussion to others.
