Any Ultraportables in the works ?
Any Ultraportables in the works ?
I've been waiting and waiting and while my T43 is hanging on........I really need a ultraportable laptop. Surprising, Lenovo has not come up with a 10.5" UPC yet.Looked at the X series but I need something smaller like a SZ series or Fujitsu 7XXX series.
I would argue that Lenovo already has that in the X61s.
The Sony SZ series is substantially heavier than the X61s (or even X61) at 3.7 lbs, and while the Fujitsu has a smaller display it really isn't any more portable.
Sony SZ370P: 12.5” x 9.3" x 0.9-1.3”, 3.72 lbs
Fujitsu P7230: 10.74” x 7.91” x 1.06-1.17”, 2.63 lbs
ThinkPad X61s: 10.5" x 8.3" x 0.8-1.1", 2.73 lbs
There may be other reasons for you to prefer a Sony or a Fujitsu, but surely the size cannot be it.

And the R500 is indeed about 12% lighter than the X61s (hello, PW, we must stop meeting this way!
), although it has some other compromises in order to achieve this.
But it's all about finding the best fit for you personally -- only you can judge which features matter and which don't. The thread the PW posted has pretty good coverage of the pros and cons of the R500.

Dunno is specs say it all.
The Fuji with the ultrabay battery = damm good power off a battery.
On the X series, it does not offer one.
Dunno if the new Fuji 7XXX is larger than the older one, but when I held the X61 and the older 7XXX next to it, the Fujitsu appeared slightly smaller.
I've never ban a fan of Sony ....., but the new TZ90 with SSD is really intriguing me

Fujitsu quotes 9h with the modular bay battery (which brings the weight up to 3.08 lbs).
Lenovo quotes 9h with the 8-cell battery (which brings the weight up to 3.30 lbs).
Again, not a huge difference, although admittedly the X61s 8-cell sticks out whereas the Fujitsu one presumably will not. On the other hand, I think the Fujitsu numbers are quoted with the single-core Core Solo processor rather than the Core 2 Duo that the X61s uses. (The Fujitsu uses the older Napa chipset, and offers only 32-bit processors and a maximum of 2 GB of memory.)
