Cannot detect drive(My computer, XP) in a 2631dock

#1 Post by jpapier » Mon Jun 25, 2007 12:36 am

I tried to install a refurbed seagate st98823a 80GB drive in the dock for backup. Ultra 2000 drive caddy and pined as slave, got a message detected drive, but just drive C(30G) showed up in "My computer. PC Doctor detected (two drives)drive O as a 78million KB and drive 1 as 28million KB. My TP OPsystem is right off the IBM recovery disks without any upgrades. Can someone tell me the procedure for installing a backup drive in a dock? Or a detailed user guide for a 2631 dock.

User Guide 2631:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/op ... 9ipcov.pdf

Try going into Control Panel/ Administrative Tools/ Computer Management/ Storage/ Disk Management
and Partition/Format that new disk first.

Well, that seems to do it now. And I thought the problem was in Hardware Profile. :P When the drive was detected, shouldn't a Format new drive Wizard have popped up?

AFAIK the Format wizard only pops up for partitioned but unformatted drives. A new HD alone is not enough to cause that.
