I am about to format the HD on my x40 and clean install from recovery CDs. It appears I need to format separately as the rescue partition is passworded (software password lost) and the bootable external recovery cd still boots through to the password.
I assume the cd's will restore the windows OS and a factory fresh recovery partition on a freshly formatted drive and I can then use the inbuilt updater to bring my machine to current.
Am I about to make a big mistake? If so what have I missed. thanks
Fresh start
