no-1802.com is not as good as linux livd cd

I thought no-1802.com is easier to use, so I did that about 2 weeks ago. Today, when I turn on my X31 it freezes at the IBM logo screen. The first thought was that my hard disk drive had gone. I press F1, enter the supervisor password, and Error 1802 appears. The CMOS battery might need replacement, I told myself.
I removed the wifi-card (ASKEY Atheros 2413), booted X31 with a clean DOS startup CD, then applied the no-1802.com .
It still freezes at the IBM logo screen after I put the wifi-card back. I removed it again, loaded the default CMOS configuration, booted X31 with a clean DOS startup CD, then applied the no-1802.com again. It doesn't work, neither.
I went wired to the thinkwiki ( http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_w ... twork_card ), downloaded the linux live cd ( http://www.student.ru.nl/p.brederveld/m ... m_wifi.zip ), burned it to a CD, then restarted my X31, applied the 1802 patch, finally it works with the wifi-card as normal.
I do not know why a linux cd would do while no-1802.com failed. If you guys have unstable problems with the no-1802.com, try the linux live cd next time.
Wish you good luck!
