ext. widescreen LCD monitor recs for design?

#1 Post by npish » Tue Jul 03, 2007 4:31 pm

I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for particular widescreen LCD monitors; we're looking to purchase a few displays for graphics and photography work, but our budget will not allow Eizo's or Lacie's;

I'm hoping to find a solid IPS display with good contrast ratio, viewing angles, and decent color accuracy at a mid-level price. Currently I'm looking at a couple NEC models, and I hear nothing but good things about the Dell displays. Value is the key word here, quality bang for the buck.

Ideally I would like a 20-22" with 1680 x 1050 res.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

ps. for mine, I would likely use DVI out with advanced mini-dock on my T60p

Dell 2007 WFP got a great IPS (like Flexview) screen 1680x1050
Dell 2407 WFP is also nice with MVA screen 1920x1200

I own both, 2007 is better for photo. 2407 is perfect when you need a lot of space.

An excellent LCD panel technology reference on this site:

And some additional info in this thread:

Note that Dell may switch panel types without any indication in the model number -- for example, early revs of the 2001FP were S-IPS, later ones were PVA.

In Europe, we never have such an issue : all 2007 have IPS and all 2407 have MVA. There were some hipe in some forum, when people recieve the first one's. Everybody got the same TFT, even later order.

Other manucacturers change the panel without notice like Samsung and ViewSonic.
