can't get support website to detect my machine?
can't get support website to detect my machine?
There seems to be a bunch of tools on the Lenovo support website that are to automatically detect my machine and provide support specific to me.
things like warranty look-up, specific files, machine configuration, etc.
I have a T61 that came factory installed with vista ultimate.
There's not any windows security popups or anything saying it's blocking any activex or anything.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
thanks
Mike

What error message do you get? Is there any kind of a message at all?
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

just plan ie7 that came on the machine.
no pop up errors or anything.
for example if i go to the warrenty lookup page at:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... yle=lenovo
i can enter my information or there's a button that says "detect and continue"
if i click that button it just goes to another page that says
nothing to say why it didn't work.
any ideas?

I am not sure, but you might need .NET 2.0 installed.
I don't have a T61, but I guess it has a similar feature to my T42. Press the ThinkVantage button while in Windows. See if you can find a menu choice for System Information and another for Warranty and Parts. Is the proper information displayed?
When you boot up into the BIOS setup menu, are the ThinkPad System-Unit serial number and System board serial number displayed?

thanks-
not really a big deal- I can just type the info in from the sticker on the bottom of the laptop and it works just fine.
I just can't figure out what the hec is wrong with vista and ie7....
tomh009 wrote:You don't (good thing, too, given how massive .NET 2.0 is); it just installs an ActiveX control to extract the information.GomJabbar wrote:I am not sure, but you might need .NET 2.0 installed.
I suspect one of these new "features" in vista is jamming up the works...
just a browser issue
a little more playing- looks like when it works the url for the auto detection is:
http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/p ... nTest.html
and when it jams and doesn't work the detection url is:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... yle=lenovo
is there someplace in vista or ie7 where i can see what activex controls are installed and which are blocked?
