Rather long, but please read though and assist if you can. It'll be mucho appreciated.

I've been using the Fingerprint recognition program for months now without issue, till I ran the ThinkVantage System Update and installed all the recommended updates yesterday. I then rebooted my laptop (T43 with XP Professional SP2).

Now I can't get in my laptop. I log in with my usual domain account, and immediately a User Enrollment screen comes up. I can't click cancel at any stage here or it logs me off.

I click next and it takes me to a screen showing my username, domain (both filled in and greyed out so i can't change them) and a password field. I key in that field and click next. A dialogue box comes up stating that I can't enrol this account (I'll assume that it's because it's already enrolled).

I tried logging in with the local admininstrator account and that same User Enrollment screen comes up. This time I can register the administrator account, but after it completes registration, it saves my data and logs me off. Now I can't register the account again, I get the same error stated above - that I can't enrol this account.

I tried logging on with 2 other domain accounts with the same results - that User Enrollment box comes up, it lets me register each account once, then saves the data and logs me off.

Yeah I have this exact problem too - not sure what update/install was the issue. Basically I have just booted in safe mode (F8 after IBM boot screen) and disabled the fingerprint logon by starting the fingerprint control centre from the thinkvantage folder; I am just going to wait for the next program update or else if I have time reinstall the fingerprint software. It's not a huge deal for me and the power-on fingerprint swipe still works, I just have to enter my windows password manually.[/i]

Question: did system update also update BIOS?
It may be possible that the BIOS settings for the fingerprint reader have been changed?
If you are able to disable the FP software in safe mode, you can definitely erase fingerprint data in BIOS and change the settings in order that passwords are accepted. You should then be able to uninstall / reinstall FP software.

I thought I would reply because I managed to fix this issue by going to BIOS, erasing fingerprint data & disabling power-on, then uninstalling/reinstalling fingerprint, then re-enabling power-on password. Just like you said really, was just a pain in the [censored] so I delayed doing it until now. Cheers.
