Modification of Hot Air Blowers to Resolder Mainboard

#1 Post by Robbyrobot » Sat Aug 11, 2007 3:37 am

Hot air blowers are cheap and available in nearly any construction supply store. But they have one big disadvantage when used for melting/resoldering questionable connections on a PCB: the hot air vent is much too large.

Has anyone tried to make a "reduction" vent for such a hot air blower to direct the hot air on only a very small area and thus concentrate it on a specific solder joint on a Thinkpad mainboard? And does this really work?

I could imagine such a thing, but the power of the hot air blower might be too great (even at the "lower" setting) for a really small output vent.
