Problem with Task Manager

Can somebody help me?

Sometimes my computer freezes and when I hit "Alt-F4" it launches an incomplete Task Manager box. The box is missing the "Windows Task Manager" title bar, the entire row of menu options, the tabs across the top, and the statistics bar across the bottom. All it shows is an empty box with the three buttons on the bottom "End Task", "Switch To", and "New Task". When I click on "End Task" it launches multiple Task Manager windows and endless numbers of green computer icons in my taskbar. I end up having to hold the power button down for a hard reboot. I'm sure something is corrupt but I don't know what to do to fix it.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

You can try running System File Checker.

Go to Start > Run > and type sfc /scannow in the text box for Open:, then click on Ok. This will take awhile to complete - perhaps an hour.

Task Manager could be running in Tiny Footprint mode. When you double-click the empty space in the border around the tabs, Task Manager switches to this mode. To switch Task Manager to its normal display mode, double-click the top border of the window.

Perhaps that may help. ... JDH
