Multimedia Center refuses to install !!

I recently re-imaged my T60 using the discs provided by Lenovo. After everything was installed, I removed all the Lenovo/Thinkpad software. The plan was to remove *everything* and then download ONLY the latest versions of the software that I actually want from the Lenovo website

One of the software apps that I need is the Multimedia Center. Now that I'm trying to download it from the Lenovo website (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-66042), I receive an error message while trying to unpackage the executable:

"Could not open \device\physicalmemory"

After clicking "OK", I get this message:

"This program cannot be used with this hardware"


I should also note that the software was working just fine before I re-imaged, so it's NOT a hardware issue. I recently called Lenovo support and they said the ONLY way to install the Multimedia Center is to COMPLETELY RE-IMAGE MY SYSTEM AGAIN (along with all the other crap software that bogs down the system). Support told me that they are "not responsible" for the error messages that I noted above.

Is there any way to install Multimedia Center without re-imaging again? After installing all of my own software plus the OS, etc..., this took me an entire weekend last time. Ahhhhhhhhh... frustrated.

Welcome to the forum.
The problem with some of the Lenovo software is as follows; the original software has to be present in order to install the newest versions. I have experienced this with WINDVD. What you download is actually an update. (I believe this may have something to do with oem licenses).

If you have uninstalled the Multimedia Center, try re-insalling it and then run what you've downloaded. You should find it in C:\SWTOOLS\apps\MMCfto. (If you haven't deleted the folder).

You do have the DVD drive installed in the ultrabay when trying to install the software, right? WinDVD used to refuse to install updates unless you had the DVD drive present.

Yes that'a a very good point. If you run a recovery without a DVD or a burner in the bay, the recovery doesn't install the associated software because the hardware isn't present.

Installing the original Multimedia Center application is a great idea, but I can't get that to work.

The location you specified (C:\SWTOOLS\apps\MMCfto) doesn't exist. I searched for "MMCfto" but it can't be found anywhere.

However, I did find a directory called C:\IBMTOOLS\apps\recnow which seems to be the right folder (because it contains folders such as "SC_COPY_204", "SC_DATA_204" which might be the recording software contained within the Multimedia Center. Unfortunately, there is no setup.exe to install anything!

Is there another location I can install the original Multimedia Center?

the IBMTOOLS directory is the previous version of SWTOOLS. RECNOW is correct for the burning software Record Now. If I remember correctly, 10% unsure, there is no set up file in the main directory, it sits in the language directory. Have a look and let us know.

Problem solved!

Thanks andyP and others for your assistance. Although there was no "setup.exe", there was a "setup.bat" in the folder. Running the batch file creates the executable, and BAM -- Multimedia Center installed properly.
