Proxy, Thunderbird and Access Connections

Hey,
Here comes another AC question. I really think it is a great piece of software.

Either way, at my university, the network uses a proxy server (plus VPN client, but that does not matter). I use AC to configure the connection to the WLAN. I have gotten an address to a PAC script, a http proxy and a socks proxy.

It works great with Fx, but it does not work with Tb or any other program like MiKTeX. Are there any ways to widen the programs that AC sent the proxy info to?

Also, my VPN client (cisco) has a CLI. I would much rather use that then the GUI. However, to disable it once I log off the WLAN I need to write vpnclient disconnect. Can AC handle it? Or can I specify how it should shut down the VPN client rather than just using the default option?

Thanks,
Rasmus

You have the option to run a program in AC either before the profile is applied or after. That way it should be possible to set the proxy in thunderbird when you apply a profile either using a script, batch file or a small application to set the proxy info. I don't know where thunderbird store the proxy settings, but if it's a registry setting you could make changes to the registry from a script of batch file when you apply a profile. You also have the option to say that the application should close when you apply another profile that way i guess your VPN client could close automatically as well.

This is probably not a very good solution, but i don't think there is any way to make AC change the proxy setting in thinderbird directly.

Doesn't thunderbird have the option to use the proxy settings from IE or some sort og automatic detection?
