Ultrabay Slim HD Adapter [PIC]

#1 Post by SHoTTa35 » Mon Sep 10, 2007 1:47 pm

I just received what i thought was an OEM Ultrabay Adapter but i can see it's probably not. It has a RED LED instead of the usual green and it sticks out about 1mm from the UB slot.

This guy says his is OEM HERE

This guy says the same HERE

Prices are varied so which do you guys think is more real?

Neither one. I pretty sure that the genuine IBM HD adapter has a solid metal tray where the HD sits (i.e., no cutout or hole in the bottom), has metal on the top surface around the bay where the HD sits and has an IBM logo by itself (and not "For IBM").

At least that's what I have in my hand at the moment. I'll post a picture in a few minutes.

well here's one:

I got one that looks like that but as i said comes with the RED led. It seems to have come in an original IBM Box too with the cutout in the foam and all that for it.

Oh man, here goes another HERE that looks official with the IBM box and all but he says it's not original IBM.

Does your drive stick out 1mm looking straight down at the keyboard?

My HD adapter (as pictured in the links above) has a green LED and does not stick out from the edge of the system. It looks identical to the one you posted above.

edit: Here's the eBay auction that I got the adapter from:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0141647653

What's funny about it is that it shows an Ultrabay 2000 HD adapter but I definitely received a Slim version.

hmm well i see some differences:

if you notice at the top mine has notches i guess while yours is a straight simple line where the IDE drive plugs in.

EDIT - You mean this one right:

http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-ThinkPad-T4X-T6 ... 0156113768

That's from the same guy and the one i'll probably buy but is the SLIM version.

Also, curious, how long did you take before you got it since it's coming from Hong Kong?

Yes, you are right about my adapter not having the metal "notches" just above the IDE connector. Everything else looks the same; the screw placements, the label, the printing and icons on the label, etc. Checking the feedback I left, I noted that it took 1 week from payment to receiving the adapter:

"Genuine IBM caddy in original box arrived in 1 week from HK. Thanks! A+++++"

In that T4X-T60 auction, the picture showing the adapter partially inside a T4x system appears to be of a knockoff :) .

I have one of these. It works fine for a drive that is not in a caddy when inserted in a T4x Ultrabay Slim but doesn't work in a T6x Ultrabay Slim.... unlike my genuine IBM/Lenovo adapters, which works fine in both models.

It didn't pay much for it, so I was happy enough with what I received.

Cheers,

Bill B.
