Repairing Think Vantage installation. Help
Repairing Think Vantage installation. Help
Last week after my T40 has been turned off for 3 days it would not boot. I would sign in to Windows XP and would get only my screen background.
To make a long story short Ì ended up doing an XP repair.
This did not resolve the problem. I was about to format an F11 and Recover when finally I manage to have task Manager pop-up.
TVTSCHED.EXE was hogging all the CPU. I booted in safe mode and renamed the executable. This got rid of the problem. I did some research and renamed it to.EXE but disabled the service.
HOWEVER, my system was all wrong, I had to re-install 81 Windows patches and it took me all night to finally get Windows to install them.
Now my problems:
If I hit Fn+F5 it take about 10 minute for the black windows to appear and it just freezes there. The buttons doesn’t work.
Access Connection does not work. The splash screen just stays there forever. I re-installed AC with the same result.
System Update does start either; it says “A problem occurred with SI configuration settings (…)”. If I retry it, the message keeps popping up until I reboot.
My question, how can I go back to a working system?
Thanks

you maybe need to reinstall the "hotkey" driver. The newest version for Vista, XP and W2K you can get here:

SYSTEM UPDATE will work only when Microsoft.NET Framework Version 2.0 is already installed. This is not a part of the regular "Windows Update" process. If the fresh install was from Recovery CDs, then it might have been loaded from there or otherwise it has to be downloaded separately. Pls go to Control Panel > Add Remove Programmes & check up to see if it is already there or not. If not then download it from here and install. It is a 23Mb size file.

After this, disable 'Windows Update' temporarily, and go for System Update. It should set right everything. Once the update from IBM is over, you can re-enable Windows Update.
In my experience, whenever one has to go for a fresh install for some reason, it is better to get the updates from IBM first, and then from Microsoft. This way these types of conflicts do not happen.
It is also the right time to go for a backup Disk_Image of the full disk via some utility software like Acronis etc. and burn them to DVDs so that the future will be more predictable.
Thanks

Thanks for all your advices.
I followed GomJabbar step uninstalling an re-installing from the Wireless driver to access connection.
It worked well until step 9. Test Fn+f5.
This worked but then when AC is installed, Fn+F5 does not work anymore and the splash screen of AC stay up for a few minutes before telling me that there are no network around.
In fact it fails to disable the Windows Network Connection.
So I went back and uninstalled AC and now Fn+F5 works.
Add/Remove Programs show both Microsoft.NET Framework Version 2.0 and 3.0 installed.
Is that bad?
Thanks

You can remove the Version 2.0. The requirement is minimum Version 2,0 or higher. This might be creating problems. I do not know if the 3.0 thing is loaded as an update to the 2.0 or as an independent thing all by itself. You can try, or otherwise you can always download and go for a fresh single one.
Thanks
Aditya

I don't think so. I have .Net 1.1, 2.0, and 3.0 installed simultaneously...Mirko wrote:Add/Remove Programs show both Microsoft.NET Framework Version 2.0 and 3.0 installed.

Regarding Access Connections, I am not sure what the problem is. I do know that each version of Access Connections only supports certain versions of the Wireless driver software. See Wireless driver requirements table in the following link.
