how can I increase desktop-size to beyond screen size?

#1 Post by indessen » Sun Sep 16, 2007 10:49 am

Hello,

got an R52 with XP Sp2: is there any way of increasing the desktop size to beyond screen size, i.e. running 1280x1024 instead of 1024x768 (screen size) so that the desktop "moves" when I move the cursor to the edges? i.e. panning occurs.

this happened to my by accident somehow after having run an external tft with 1280x1024 and I found it quite useful for some apps, but I cant find any settings so that I can activate this on purpose.

appreciate any help.

Alex

It can be done with the connection of external display but not solely on the screen of your machine.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

I am not sure but the freeware Powerstrip might allow you to do that. Look for it on Google.

yet the thing is, even when I dont have that monitor I wrote about attached, sometimes when I restart from "hybernate", (i.e. ram written to disk), it comes back with the bigger desktop... most of the time it resets itself after logon, but sometimes it doesnt....

Have you tried Powerstrip yet?

... now if I could get the omega driver to set the desktop to 1280x768, this would be a perfect world... ;)

(just screwed up the post by editing it, here it goes again:)

yes, just tried it, thanks, but cant find a setting though...

BUT: yor advice triggered a memory about the omega ati drivers... (http://www.omegadrivers.net/) ... just installed that and cancelled when it asked to install actual drivers (dont have an ati card)... and now I have bigger sizes in the display settings that result in the bigger desktop I wanted... :)

no idea what part of the driver software makes the change, but works...
