Modifying Thinkpad keyboard with USB or PS/2 connector?

I imagined this would be well-investigated, but I've googled and searched this forum, and haven't found anything beyond a slashdot post asking for help.
Has anyone here been able to modify a Thinkpad keyboard with a PS/2 or USB connector? I know there is the 31P8950 UltraNav keyboard, but it just isn't the same as the keyboard on my T43.
Thanks.
edit:
For some reason I didn't see the replies to the slashdot question. It appears I might need a controller circuit for the keyboard depending on whether there is one with the keyboard. I'm having trouble disassembling it, but if some one already knows, that'd be useful too.
more findings:
From looking at the hardware maintenance manual for the 365E (where my keyboard came from, I think), it appears there is a "keyboard card." I'm guessing this is the controller card.
