Access Connections and adhoc IP settings
Access Connections and adhoc IP settings
I cannot set Access Connections to aquire IP address automatically in an adhoc network.
It tells that "DHCP IP Configuration is not supported for adhoc connection". I am not much expert at networking but I can connect to that adhoc network using Widows vista which aquires an IP address automatically.
Moreover if I just specify an IP address manually, access connections does not let me choose to get the list of DNS servers automatically. Therefore I cannot share my desktop internet connection with my laptop that way.
Is it possible to make AC aquire IP address and DNS servers automatically?

Re: Access Connections and adhoc IP settings
I suggest that you start with this then.... http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/netw ... 30679.aspxwacian wrote:I am not much expert at networking
There is normally no DHCP service in an adhoc network.

XP has a pretty good on board tutorial and wizard for ICS (internet connection sharing) and it works. Don't know, however, if it will work in conjuction with AC because I don't ever never ever use AC.
If there is no DHCP server on your network windows will default to APIPA which you really don't want, this will allow you to connect to other machines using APIPA (automatic private IP adressing) but will not help you connect to the internet.
I'd browse the tutorial, it might help pinpoint a problem.

resolved
Thank you for ur replies.
My problem was resolved by adding the desktop pc IP (which is connected to the internet) to the dns server lists when configuring profile in access connections.

Resetted my IP and winsock successfully
Also I want to add:
I had problem with AC where after setting a static IP address (eg. 192.168.0.111) in the profile configuration, I acquired another static IP address which I had configured before (192.168.0.5). Also I had sudden connection drops.
However I managed to resolve all of those by reseting winsock and IP settings in Vista. I followed (most of the steps of) the the following guide on resetting them:
