I bought a laptop 144pin ram stick today. It was from a seller here in town. It's a 256 meg pc-100(well thats what the sticker says). But it's high density ram.Has 4 chips per side(8 chips total). The seller said he had it running in a older thinkpad.
I said to him it couldent have been a Thinkpad. He said yes it was.
So i bought it anyway,it was only $10.00 bux.

I was right it dont work in the new-to-me T21.

My question is is there any thinkpads that can use the high density 256 meg ram?

Thanks
Bill

MOD EDIT: That was the news forum you posted in. :)

I am glad that you are asking this because I asked the same question a long time ago and didn't get a definitive answer.

During my search for..low density 256MB chips, I came across some ..high density modules(on EBay) that according to the seller were supposed to be compatible with:

Thinkpad A30, A30p, R30, R31, T23, X21, X22, X23, X24, X30( EBay item nbr 180165343859 )

Those systems (A30-X30) are PC133, with the exception of the X21 which is PC100 and the R30 which appears to be spec'ed as PC100/PC133 (chipset limited to 100Mhz but uses PC133 modules) Perhaps this is the system the seller has/had.

It is true that the PC133 system can take low OR high density modules. As far as I know, NONE of the PC100 systems can use high density modules.

SaberX, what's the label(s) say or can you send me a picture/scan to my email address (use button at the bottom of my posts)?

When i get my cam back i'll get a pic. BUT the only lable on it is a small one that fits on just one of the 8 chips. It says 256meg ,PC-100.On that lable it has a logo of a line going around in a circle ,i think its "Sheika" (SP?) ram logo.
Thats it.Just the bare ram , no other lables or stickers.

Anyone want it for $15.00 shipped?.
I'm not going to go buy the R30 system just to try out the ram.

I'd love to know what systems, besides Thinkpads, can take a PC100 High Density stick as well...

I bought a stick for $75 4 years ago, and have yet to get it to work in a system. Though a friend supposedly got it to work in an HP...
