"Battery not installed" error

My T60 has suddenly developed a periodic habit of showing that my battery is not installed while I am running off it. The battery icon in the system tray shows an x or 3 dashes and then will flash back to its old green self with the % showing.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Make sure your battery wasn't the part of
Battery Recall.

Unfortunately, it was the battery I got from Lenovo as part of the battery recall. Do you think it's likey to be the battery or my machine?

Could be software or registry related issue. You can try reinstalling Power Manager again:
Power Manager driver for Windows XP
Power Manager for Windows Vista
You can also refer to:

Something from Microsoft:
Incorrect battery information is displayed after you change the batteries on a portable computer that is in hibernation or in a suspended state in Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000.
