Is it possible to set the trackpoint center button as a mouse middle button as default, and enable the scrolling while the button is pressed?

Yes you can.

I haven't looked at the Trackpoint properties in a long time, so I can't say what you have to check...I think if you select "nothing" or something like that, it'll middle click and scroll.

Check out the properties and you'll figure it out.

In addition to Dan's advice, you can also find some useful info. from the following document from lenovo:

Thank you both for the suggestion. After reading the document, the way to switch the TrackPoint center button function is still too slow for me. I use firefox. I need mouse middle button to open a link in a new tab. And I need scrolling to page up and down. These two operations are the most frequents action when I surf the website. If we can active scrolling when the middle button is pressed, I can use only one hand to browser among webpages without moving.

For once I'm actually posting from my ThinkPad...

What you want to be able to do with the middle button and firefox is what many of us are doing.

Under TrackPoint settings, "neither" should be checked as the magnifying/glass function, and under settings you should check "standard," and "press center button, then use trackpoint."

With this setup, I use the center button to open new tabs, scroll pages, and close tabs, with one click.

I don't know if the settings have changed since I'm using a T23 and the appropriate drivers, but you should be able to do what you want with this.
