wireless is off but SW says its on

#1 Post by joaquin02 » Sat Oct 06, 2007 5:06 pm

I have a home network (wired); whenever I connect my laptop, I have a TP 43p WinXP Pro SP2, via cable to the internet, (the wireless features are disabled), the TP's firewall software (a common commerical app) keeps sending me an alert that someone is trying (or is) accessing my "wireless network" via my TP! When I check the network connections in WinXP it can't find anyone connected. I've checked and changed the SOP security settings HW and SW and the firewall app continues to detect someone connecting to me wirelessly. I've contacted the vendor and got their "patch" but still no dice. Now they are saying its a HW issue. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

What is the firewall software and how have you disabled the wireless?

1) It was the firewall software that indicated that there was a breach. 2)Via XP, I disabled the wireless hardware. My desktop still shows the icon with a red "x" over it but no activity.

When I turn on the TP it "finds" local WiFi users but I decline accessing them and recheck my settings and the show that the wireless feature is disabled.
