ThinkVantage Update Retriever

#1 Post by Loris » Mon Oct 15, 2007 11:29 pm

Hi,
I am having some trouble getting the ThinkVantage Update Retriever to Get New Updates.
Update Retriever is installed on a Win2k3 machine. When I run the program straight after its been installed the "Get New Updates" link is greyed out(disabled) and it sends me to the Import Updates Screen.
I have uninstalled it serveral times and reinstalled but it never gives me the First Time Setup screen.
When I uninstalled it I removed any left over registry entries to do with lenovo\thinkvantage. I have deleted all files in Program Files and I couldnt find any in %appdata%.
I guess my question is how do I start this program from scratch and run through the First Time Setup wizard, enabling Get New Updates.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Loris

If you're talking about System Update installed on a Windows 2003 machine then you may have problems.
The software requirements for System Update 3 are as follows,

The following operating systems are supported:

Microsoft Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit)
Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 or later
Microsoft Windows XP Home with Service Pack 2 or later
Microsoft Windows XP Tablet
Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 or later
Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 or later is required for ThinkVantage System Update to work properly. Use Microsoft Windows Update to ensure that Microsoft .NET 2.0 or later is installed on your system.

No, Im talking about Update Retriever which works like WSUS..
It downloads different machine type updates and stores them locally.
System Update on Client laptops then connects to the local repository and downloads the updates available to their machine type.
This isnt for just a single user, its for 600+ users.

Thanks.

Sorry no answer to your problem but for 600+ computers why not buy or try LANDesk Management Suite for ThinkVantage.

Thinkvantage Update Retriever works fine (if i can get the First Time Setup to work). We've had it running with no problems before on an older server. We are not interested in any other product.
