Port Replicator II and PS/2 Keyboard don't play nice togethe

#1 Post by doppelfish » Wed Oct 17, 2007 11:55 am

So, my T43p now lives in a ThinkPad Port Replicator II, at least when I'm at home. No more unpacking the power brick, yeah!

But alas, the Replicator doesn't play nice with my PS/2 Keyboard. The latter is a Hewlett Packard C1405BABA, which I rescued when our Vectra's were decomissioned. Its quality is only slightly short of that of a Model M, by the way :)

You've probably seen the keyboard of a PC being reset at boot time - all three LEDS - Caps Lock, Scroll Lock and Num Lock - light up - and well, that's what seems to happen to my keyboard continuously when it's attached to the Replicator. Blink - blink - blink - blink - ... This makes it unusable for normal work, as not a single keystroke gets through to the machine.

Do I have to break out the PS/2-to-USB-Connector again, or is there a way to make the two play nice together? I have a soldering iron, and I'm not afraid to use it ...

cheers,

I have a few of these in use by clients. Use an IBM keyboard. This is a cheap, effective, trouble-free way to solve your problem. I would not waste as many as 5 nanoseconds on a non-IBM keyboard. Not worth the time. ... JDH

So, it's the keyboard's fault

So, I hooked up my other HP keyboard (same model), and that one works like a charm. Must be the keyboard's fault, then.

This also means that I can keep my Model M attached to the desktop can. Yummie!
