I want to put a internal wifi card in my A31 but am not comfortable installing the antennas in the LCD. I have seen a few of the cards that come with an short "L" shaped antenna that fits in the base. Any one have any experience with this type of antenna?
Thanks
John

There's many threads about installing antennas inside the system, both in the lid and base. I recently posted this thread:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=49382
Some general advice:
- antennas need to be located as close as possible to the outside of the system
- most Thinkpads have metal in the lid or base which will block the radio signals; try to avoid putting the antenna in those areas
- use the shortest leads that permit placement of the antenna in the desired location; excessively long (i.e., 48") leads will reduce the signal
I haven't tried an antenna install inside any of my A31s but it is one of my projects for later on. I'm assuming that the best placements would be under the keyboard bezel (hopefully just plastic) or near the ventilation holes on the left side. The short 4-5" antennas will probably not have the reach to get to an area where radio reception is adequate.
