using my dvd/cdrw ultrabay2000 combo drive as external?

#1 Post by awong » Sun Oct 21, 2007 6:41 pm

I just ordered a ultrabay 2nd hd adapter for my r31 as I plan to just dualboot xinwp and ubuntu through bios saving me issues with grub, and paritions. But it leaves me with one thing, the cdrw/dvd drive. Is it possible to connect my current ultrabay 2000 drive as a usb into an enclosure and when I need to use the dvds/cds I can just plug it into the usb port without a problem? I rather not buy an external drive just for this and use my current drive.

I've been searching online and found this
Link

but it doesnt look like the same port as the one on my r31.

Also are there cables that will plug into an ultrabay 2000 and just use at external with usb self powered?

MOD EDIT: Link modified for better scrolling.

You need to look at IBM's Portable Drive Bay 2000. Here are a couple of links for the product:

I just bought one from a forum member, and he sent me a pic. It is available below:

Rules of the road :thumbs-UP:
