Digital vs. Analog Display Ports

I currently have my A31's connected to my analog TV equipment via a cable that has an s-video plug and mini-stereo plug on one end and three RCA jacks on the other end. I use the computer to play DVD's onto the TV and also to watch some computer recorded stuff. The crispness of the what is shown on the laptop display (like when playing a DVD) blur somewhat on the analog TV (lower res.), but it's OK from across the room.

I am recently interested in an HDTV upgrade and was wondering:

1. Is the s-video output on my A31 analog or digital (or is the system converting it to one or the other based on what's its connected to?)

2. Is the DB-15 external display port analog or digital?

I guess what I am really asking is if I have a 2048x1536 screen res on the laptop, will playing the same thing on an HDTV be just as crisp, just bigger or will I lose something along the way?

1. S-video is analog.
2. I suppose you mean a vga connector which is analog too, but the quality is much much better then s-video. Then again the quality is much less (imo) then a digital output like dvi.

Furthermore I'm not sure wheter you actually can output such a high resolution...
