moving HD from x60 to x61

Hi,

I would like to move a hard drive from an x60 to an x61. A very helpful person on this forum told me that I would have access to all the programs and files I installed while using my x60 by pretty much plugging in the existing HD into the x61, and installing drivers from lenovo.com.

When I put the X60 HD into the X61, the X61 tells me that Windows was unable to start successfully, which I think stops me from installing any drivers... what am I missing? I did basic HD transfer - unscrew, replace, screw.

Any help is much appreciated! Thank you.

Most likey Windows is using old chipset drivers.

Intel Chipset Support for Windows Vista, XP, 2000 - ThinkPad Reserve Edition, R61, R61e, R61i, T61, T61p, X61, X61s, X61 Tablet

Also go to Device Manager in Windows to check if there's anything with exclamation mark or question sign there.

Consider updating other drivers as well via Thinkvantage System update or manually.

If the X61 won't boot, put the HD back in the X60 and update there.
Then swap HD again.

You could also try to boot the X61 in Safe Mode. Keep pressing F8 repeatedly during booting, until you see the menu. Select the option with internet access (if available).
