access connections woes

#1 Post by wulfman » Wed Nov 21, 2007 4:02 pm

Hi guys,

I've been using AC on my T60 for quite some time without problems. recently, the wlan card (intel 3945 abg) started to act up: using Fn-F5 I couldn't switch it on anymore: the buttons and everything would be there, along with bluetooth, but clicking on "on" would just produce an hourglass for a few seconds, but no results. earlier, the button would turn green within moments - but not now. similarly, AC couldn't connect to wlans anymore - probably for the same reason.

I thought that system update messed something up recently, and tried to reinstall AC - which made it work for a few days, and then it failed again. as the same condition returned, I reinstalled again - and suddenly the wlan card disappeared from both the Fn-F5 menu & access connections.

but suddently the xp wlan menues turned up again, and behold - yes, I can connect to any wlan using xp tools.

still, I prefer access connections, so I tried to reinstall the wlan drivers (11.1.1.16 or 11.5 something) and AC multiple times and in different order (first wlan, then AC; other way round) - to no avail.

now when I'm booting, I get some kind of error: usually something along the lines of "access connection on screen ... encountered an error, send error report", but now, after installing the official intel 11.5 drivers, I got a new one: "access connections can't be run on this platform"

right now I'm [censored] off and ouf of ideas: wlan is managed by xp and basically works, AC fails to activate or deactivate the card - and now AC won't even start. blah.

any ideas?

I would suggest the following; download and install the latest bios version, (if you don't already have it). Download the latest wlan, Hotkey drivers and the latest version of Access Connections.
Uninstall AC and the WLAN card. Start your TP new and when xp says new hardware found click cancel, don't let it install the wlan card automatically.
Install the wlan driver; re-start, install AC; re-start, then install the Hotkey driver; re-start.
Then hopefully all will be OK.

would love to say something else, but no, that didn't work. I even removed everything referencing the intel card (intel.net?) from the software menu, just in case.
