Power button / shutting down problem on X31

#1 Post by ^kerberos » Sun Dec 02, 2007 6:07 pm

I have no idea what could be the problem, so I decided to turn to here.

So, on my X31 the power button goes missing. It boots up/starts normally when pressing the power button, but after that it's "gone". Nothing happens if I press it while in Windows (I've defined the "ask me what to do" menu to pop up). Neither does anything happen if I hold it down for long period of time i.e. over 15s.

I thought that this could be windows ACPI related problem, but I'm also unable to shut down the computer while in BIOS or pre-desktop area.

Could anybody have a clue what could be the problem?

I've had a somewhat similar issue with a T30 several years ago. The power button was sticking, although it didn't feel that way whatsoever. New keyboard resolved the problem.

If you want, I have an old X30 keyboard which is in great shape apart from missing one key (I hope I can find it) that I can ship to you to play with and see whether that resolves your issue.

Good luck.

Thanks for reply. And thanks for the offer. Really appreciated, but I think the costs with outweight the benefits (2xpostal fees from US to Germany).

I hope that it´s because of the keyboard, because I am anyways changing the keyboard to a localized version.

It just puzzles me because the machine starts from the power button, but then it doesn´t even return from standby etc. (it does with FN+F4, though) by pressing it.

Is there any chance that I could test it whether it's a problem with Mobo or the keyboard without extra keyboard?

Like with Mediaslice? I didn't find any power button from the Mediaslice, though..

You haven't found a power button on the media slice because there isn't one...

BTW, my offer to send you the keyboard has not implied that you would have to return it. I have no use for it anyway. So it's yours if you need it.
