Best 600MHZ+ Thinkpad
Best 600MHZ+ Thinkpad
Hey all,
I have a R50 I love- I just got a T40 on ebay for my mom for christmas and it has the dreaded GPU/Ball solder freeze problem so I am going to have to return it ot the seller.
He has asked if I would like a refund or a replacement... I think I am going to go for a refund or ask for a differnt model as I didn't know it was this common...
This is just for my mom to browse internet, email and basic wordprocessing.
Thanks!
Andrew

What other models does this seller have?hpfiend wrote:I think I am going to go for a refund or ask for a differnt model
You already have an R50. Are you trying to get something better than this R50, e.g. faster, lighter, higher display resolution? Would you mind getting another R-series Thinkpad?
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

I also forgot to mention that it has to be able to run XP.
I liked the idea of the T as it was thinner as she plans to use it to travel to florida during the winter. But possibly it's thinness is why it is susceptible to motherboard failure. I have thought about getting another R but thought maybe it will fail any day now as well as I bought it new in 2004... The Sony VAIO GRX550 I had was super expensive and MUCH heavier than even the R and it still had a motherboard failure at the RAM slots.
I would be fine with another R if they are as reliable used as the one I have.
