Looking for a part, but...

#1 Post by ThinkPad » Thu Dec 13, 2007 11:19 am

dont know what its called.

I use two physical hard drives, one for XP the other for Linux. I want to get that little cradle that holds the drive with screws and the black plastic side that attaches to pull the drive out.

Normally I use the second drive (linux) with the ultra bay drive, but I want to also use my dvd drive, so a simple drive swap would suffice.

So question is where can i get these parts? metal cage, black plastic piece and screws..... :?

People generally call these the "HDD caddy" (the metal cage with screws to hold the hard drive) and the "HDD cover" (the black plastic cover that attaches to the caddy/HDD. But you'd have to say exactly what Thinkpad you're talking about, since the covers (and in some cases the caddies) differ depending on the model and even the screen size.

If you intend frequent hard drive swapping, be advised most people discourage it. Another option would be to leave the ultrabay setup you have and use an external DVD drive.

Is there anyway to hook up the ultrabay via cable...USB perhaps?

now that you mention it...
it would actually be a great idea if they made thinkpad ultrabay harddrive adapters to include a USB port to hook up to any computer.
All they would need to do is cram in an IDE/SATA to USB bridge.

The cover for the 14" T4x and 15" T4x are different. Which do you have?

The model and type in your signature comes back at Lenovo.com as "Product not found".
