Of all the IBMs in the world, I would think there would be more people here on this forum. Is this NOT the place to be?? Email me some good places to go at csmc1013@hotmail.com . I went to look for stuff to buy and there was like only 5 things listed since Nov ?????????

Not sure the exact intention of OP but ... Off Topic forum is probably more appropriate for this thread.

Well, i was looking for hardware to buy and couldnt find any so I thought this would "kinda" be the place? It is IBM related, but, if the MODs want to move it, I will deal.

This is just one of the many subforums on this site. Most people post on the subforums specific for their Thinkpad models, e.g. T4*, R series, etc. The best way to find what you need is to do a keyword search.

There are basically two kinds of forum users, enthusiasts and those with issues. Most of the people using IBM's are not enthusiasts. It is a machine they use at work, they don't care. The rest are enthusiasts or have issues. They come here or to http://forum.lenovo.com although it is fairly new.

Believe it or not, I originally got hooked on IBM laptops because they had the Keyboard light, and good name behind them. I am always checking on my PC, day and night. I am often in the dark sitting next to my girl while she is watching TV or I am on a plane, etc So the light was a killer solution for me.

Then I quickly got hooked on how stable the machine was and how I rarely had any problems with it especially compared to my Sony laptops.

Hey, if thats what it takes to steer you in the IBM direction, then thats great. I think they look, like someone said, sexy, but, I will use sleek and classy instead. Thats all that did it for me! If they work, thats great. If they are stable as almighty heck, then thats a bonus. Guess for you, that little lite was juuuuuust the icing on the cake . Do wish they had a slightly better video card though. Sure would like an all around laptop from IBM.

For me it was how easy they are to take apart and fix, particularly the T2x series. I used to buy busted machines, fix them up and sell them off. Closer to the end of my little stint I was able to strip a T20 machine in 10-15 mins. They were so much more comfortable to use and service than Dell c640 I had before my first Thinkpad! I've tried several other machines from Sony, Dell, Acer, Toshiba etc but none of them were as easy to work with or as durable as T2x series.

After I realized how much better they are I was hooked and tried various T4x machines, 1 T30, A22m which my parents still had and even had an R32 that I was fixing. The rarest one I had was a Japan-only S30 that I sold on this forum sometime ago. Have been using T42p for a while and now finally got my first X-series, the X40 I'm using to type this up. It's a great machine.

Since I usually buy them used, Thinkpads are hard to beat. They're very durable and for the most part easy to fix. Will continue to buy only Thinkpads until something better shows up which might be never.
